Dear Friends of Zion:
Thank you for your prayers and offerings while we were in the USA for seven weeks. We are now back in Brazil and thrilled with our little Gilmer grandson, born during our absence. Praise the Lord for the good reports of God’s blessings on the work during the weeks we were away.
In one church we visited, someone requested tracts for Portuguese-speaking people to whom they are witnessing. Thank the Lord we had a good selection of tracts on hand and were able to help them.
Tracts open many doors for witness wherever we go. More people reject them in the USA than in Brazil. Even so, they opened the way for many interesting moments to present the Gospel. After attempting to witness to some Mexicans in my broken Spanish, I called someone that I thought could help follow up on that contact. I was thrilled to learn that his church started a Spanish ministry because of an incident that occurred when I spoke there a number of years ago. Some Spanish-speaking children were playing near the church and, as I went in to speak, I invited them to attend the service. The church now has a Spanish Bible Class and teaches English as a Second Language. Praise the Lord for this outreach!!!
While in Charlotte, NC, Linda and I went by the Bible Broadcasting Network headquarters to say thanks for the radio stations they have started in Brazil. This afforded an opportunity to speak to all the staff during the Tuesday morning devotional hour and to return on Wednesday to participate in the Russian Share-a-thon, sharing some details about our visit to the Ukraine for a Bible blitz some years ago.
In Shelbyville, TN, we participated in the 43rd Annual Scripture Conference of the Bible & Literature Missionary Foundation (Dr. Bobby Lemmon), celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible. We enjoyed meeting and thanking many pastors who have provided Bibles for Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries, through BLMF and other Bearing Precious Seed-type ministries, such as Global Outreach (Rev. Henry Lewis), Word of Faith (Dr. Mark Smith), BPS of Milford, OH (Rev. Sam Caudel), and Wyldwood Baptist Church (Rev. Jim Hoffman, Oshkosh,WI). We cooperate with these ministries by providing the Portuguese text that they print. I was grateful for the opportunity to speak about our work with the Trinitarian Bible Society of Brazil.
Our hearts were filled with gratitude to our Savior and all the brave men of the past who put their lives on the altar of sacrifice to give us the Word of God in the English language. What a treasure we possess! We are humbled that God would use us in this generation to help restore and preserve His Word for the Portuguese-speaking world. May we never lose sight of the great responsibility He has placed upon us. Thank you for supporting us in this work.
Yours for the Messiah,
Tom and Linda Gilmer
