Harold and Lílian Gilmer : October 2024 Prayer Letter
Harold and Lilian Gilmer – South America Director, Church Planter and Bible Translation in São Paulo, Brazil
Dear Brethren:
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day . . . ” (John 9:4).
Church Planting—Exciting Times!
I have thought lately of the fluidity of life, which is particularly noticeable in plants: it is fascinating to watch a seed sprout and grow. So it is with the work of the Lord. Our little Congregation is growing and we have three prayer requests: (1) the ordination of Bro. Uarlison (set for October 26th), (2) purchase of the land (the Lord is providing), and (3) official organization of the Church.
It is so wonderful to see how Bro. Uarlison and his wife Grazi have grown in the ministry. He used to be an ambulance driver and came to people´s rescue—but he shared that his desire was to the rescue people´s souls. The Lord is granting him the desire of his heart.
The Lord is providing for the purchase of the land for the Church. Please pray with us for the Lord´s leading and guiding to the location of His choice.
The Church is not made up of brick and mortar, but of people. The Lord is giving us people for which we are eternally grateful. Words fail to express the joy of seeing people saved and grow in the Lord. Please pray for the increase.
Bible Ministry—Sowing in Places Unsown
I had the privilege of attending the Annual General Meeting of the Trinitarian Bible Society in London, at their invitation. While there, we were able to talk about the need of Bibles for Angola and discuss the possibility of setting up a distribution center in that country through Pr. Virgilio (whom I mentioned last month). We are also in contact with two more organizations about this need. We are very grateful that there is still a hunger for the Word of God—may the Lord be pleased to use us in sowing His Word in places it has not yet reached!
Book Publication Ministry in Portuguese—The Need is Great
The need for sound books in Portuguese is very great. When Pastors come to the office, they are grateful for the Bibles, but inevitably ask: “Do you have books?” Rejoice with us that we were given permission by Dr. Shelton Smith to translate and publish two more books in Portuguese: Prayer: Asking and Receiving (by Dr. John R. Rice) and Profile of a Preacher (by Dr. Raymond Barber). We are excited about this new ministry, and we need your help in taking it forward. Please prayerfully consider taking part in this ministry.
Yours fellow servants in Brazil,
Harold, Lílian, Raphael and Danielle
