Dear Pastor and friends,

Bethesda Children’s Home will be filled with the joyful voices of our children returning from their summer break in a few days. I can hardly wait to greet them! My prayer is they have been able to be a good testimony and witness to their family this summer. I also pray they have read their Bibles and prayed and grown in the Lord.

Last week we had our annual workers’ retreat. God made it possible to take them to Acapulco this year, but we thought we might not make it! About an hour and a half before arriving in Acapulco, there was roadblock that held us up for more than seven hours. Unhappy people in a local town were trying to get the attention of the government concerning an injustice done to them, so they stopped the traffic for eleven hours. We were there for only seven hours of that time.

Although all the activities planned for the first afternoon had to be cancelled, and we were in Acapulco only one full day and two nights, our staff had a wonderful time. Several had never seen the ocean nor had the privilege of getting into the water. One lady cried tears of joy when she first saw the ocean. Most of them had never stayed in the nice hotel nor eaten all they wanted from the buffet. No one expressed disappointment at our delay. All we heard were expressions of joy and gratitude.

Dr. Bill Patterson, my son challenged us with four important lessons. He taught on Serving Joyfully, Serving Lovingly, Serving Obediently, and Serving Effectively. We also had a time of prayer requests and a sweet time of prayer. All of us left the retreat refreshed and challenged to give our best to the Lord. May God see fit to use us to make an eternal impact upon the lives of these children and their families. ” For the love of Christ constraineth us… that they which live should not henceforth live unto him which died for them, and rose again. ” II Corinthians 5:14,15
