Becky Patterson and the Bethesda Homes : November 2025 Newsletter

Mrs. Becky Patterson – Missionary to Mexico
Bethesda Children’s Homes – Tlapa, Mexico

Dear Pastor and friends,

It never ceases to amaze me how active our enemy Satan is in Tlapa every October, while at the same time our Lord sends multiple blessings to this children’s home. The Catholic patron saint of Tlapa, El Senor del Nicho, is celebrated from the first of the month with fireworks, parades and dances, until the twenty-third of the month. On that day, this idol is carried through the streets, decorated with sand art; by faithful worshipers, accompanied by discordant music; ending up at the Catholic Church with a mass and the loudest fireworks you ever heard! It sounds like war! Anyone who thinks idolatry is something of the past, does not know. It is alive and very active in a large part of our world.

The rest of the month is full of activities preparing for the Day of the Dead, celebrated October 31 to November 2. The evening of October 30 we had a Celebration of Life instead of celebrating Day of the Dead. We had a bonfire in the middle of the courtyard. Each child and worker gave a short testimony or expression of gratitude to the Lord before placing a small piece of wood on the fire.

Brother Jonathan Arrellano preached an excellent sermon about how it is scripturally impossible for the dead to return to earth to enjoy some good food and other things, as is taught and celebrated all over Mexico. He gave a clear presentation of the Gospel. At least ten children received the Lord. He also challenged them to share the Gospel with their families while there is hope because there is no hope after death. We finished the evening with pizza and lots of smiles.

At least five other children prayed to receive the Lord during the month. We have felt the Lord working in the hearts of the children during chapel services, devotionals, Bible classes and at different times in the classroom. It brings tears to my eyes! They are all memorizing a daily Bible verse, as well as Psalm 119 this school year. “So shall my word be that goeth forth our of my mouth… it shall accomplish that which I please…” Isaiah 55:11

God is working and we are so happy! Please keep us in your prayers. Thank you for being a blessing to us. May our combined service bring joy to the heart of the Savior.

Because He first loved us
