Tom and Linda Gilmer: July 2014 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends of Zion:

Thanks again to all of you who so faithfully pray and give to make our multi-ministries possible. Reading a detailed description of the time-consuming facets of our ministry would soon become boring. Much of our ministries are like the waterworks of a city: the infrastructure of water pipes and sewage lines that are unseen but so necessary for the life and health of city dwellers.

The Guacuri church project is again in slow-pace mode as the church for the deaf rethinks how much involvement they wish to have. God is blessing and their church is growing under the leadership of missionaries Dan Bennett and John Speights.

My commitment to try—one more time!—to win to the Lord a man with whom we worked in our early years of ministry has caused me to spend hundreds of hours during the last ten weeks at one of São Paulo’s largest hospitals. Multiple patients and their families, seeing me circulating in the hospital, have requested visits and prayer, as well. About a million patients are treated at that hospital every year. The only chaplains are Catholic priests. Baptist or Protestant preachers are unwelcome. But God has given me the opportunity to witness frankly to the head Catholic chaplain, relating experiences of people being born again, and he seems to be opening the door for the distribution of New Testaments in the hospital, which has been prohibited, and maybe a Baptist or Protestant chaplain as well. He admitted that many patients are requesting a pastor instead of a priest these days. I have even received a call from the hospital to visit a patient at the request of this chaplain. That is good news!

There was no time for this time-consuming venture, which has greatly delayed my work on expanded notes for a third edition of the Evangelism Bible with notes on salvation for the unsaved and to help Christians become soul winners. A secular publisher that succeeds in placing books in all the leading stores in Brazil wishes to print this edition, which will be called THE HOLY BIBLE with EVANGELISM notes PRESENTING THE MESSIAH. This will help toward reaching our goal to see the Portuguese Bible available everywhere books are sold.

All-out efforts are being made for Professor Assis and his wife to be able to begin studies this fall at Landmark Baptist College in Haines City, FL. Paper work has not all been completed. One $600 offering has been received for this project. Our first church hopes to be able to give over $1,000.
May the Lord continue to richly bless you.

Yours for the Messiah,
Tom and Linda Gilmer
