Tom Gilmer: May 2016 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends of Zion:

Linda and I are grateful for your continued prayers and offerings.

Two Jewesses professed Christ at a beauty shop across the street from our first church, Tempo Batista de Indianópolis, which was opened by a Christian family a few months ago. The owners, a husband and wife, are in a new members’ class with Pastor Marcos. They constantly call him to come  to pray with some client. One such call was to pray with a Jewish lady, who has cancer, and her sister. Pastor Marcos always presents the plan of salvation when he makes such a visit. He presented Jesus as the Messiah of Israel, who fulfills the prophecies of the Old Testament. Both ladies eagerly received the message and prayed, calling on the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Praise the Lord!!!

In the March and April prayer letters, we asked prayer concerning the political and financial corruption at high levels of government and business here in Brazil, which is hindering missionary work. The Senate has just voted, as did Congress about a month ago, to impeach the President. The judicial system is bringing many political and financial leaders to judgment with loss of office and even imprisonment. Some indicators show the economy is stabilizing. The President has been relieved from office for six months to prepare her defense. The Vice President has formed a new cabinet. Many, including the Vice President himself, have been accused of wrong doing and could fall. Much prayer is still needed for Brazil at this time.

In January I requested donations for a VAN which Igreja Batista Nova Vida (IBNV or New Life Baptist Church), the “mother” church of the projected Guacuri church, will use for their present ministries, transporting orphans and others to their services, carrying workers to their Saturday Bible Club ministry, and also for taking evangelistic teams to Guacuri.  Their old van has been breaking down too often, sometimes even on weekends, making it necessary to rent a van. Thank the Lord, between what we have raised and what the church is now able to do, plus some money missionary  Sean Lunday was able to raise, a van can be purchased! One more step toward the Guacuri church! Many thanks to all who gave for the van. Exciting developments are taking place at IBNV, which in some ways have contributed to a delay in starting the church in Guacuri. Missionary Harold Ralph will share these details in his next prayer letter.  May God continue to richly bless you.

Yours for the Messiah,
Tom and Linda Gilmer
