Mrs. Becky Patterson – Missionary to Mexico
Bethesda Children’s Homes – Tlapa, Mexico

Dear Pastor and friends,
Selene spent four years in the Bethesda Children’s Home as a teenager. Her father practiced the occult in a small town a couple of hours from Tlapa. She first heard the Gospel at Bethesda, and even received the Lord as her Savior, but at night she would kneel beside her bed and pray to the Virgin of Guadalupe until one day she realized that it was not right. Old habits are hard to break!
Selene is today a favorite teacher at Bethesda. She is sensitive to spiritual needs and had led many of our children to the Lord during the almost ten years she has been with us. Also, Selene has been a faithful witness in her home. Several of her family have been saved, including her father before he died. She has also been instrumental in bringing five of her nieces to the Home, where they have come to know the Lord and are growing in the faith. I have helped teach three of them, and they are three of the finest Christian young ladies I know. I love to hear them quote Spripture.
This is the purpose and goal of the children’s home. It is a mean of getting the Gospel into the mountain villages and reaching people whose hearts would otherwise be closed to the Gospel. We praise the Lord for what He has done during these almost fifty-seven years, but our work is not done! there are so many more that need to experience God’s love and grace through salvation.
Please pray for another Selene. Her Dad says he is going to force her to travel with him to a neighboring Mexican state to worship his favorite idol. She is grieved and does not what to do it! She has asked for our prayers.
Another girl has understood this year that idols are an abomination to God. She asked me if it would be ok if she goes home and destroys her grandfather’s idol of Santa Muerte. I told her that would just make her family angry and probably harden their hearts even more to the Gospel. I told her the Word of God is a two edged sword and a hammer, and it would be more effective to share it with her family every opportunity she has. May God lead in knowing how to do that!

This is just a glimpse of the ways God is working at the Bethesda Children’s Home. Thank you for your prayers and support for this ministry. May our Lord receive joy and be pleased, for it is all for His honor and glory!
Because He first loved us,
Becky Patterson
