Harold Gilmore: May 2020 Prayer Letter
Harold and Lilian Gilmer – South America Director, Church Planter and Bible Translation in São Paulo, Brazil.
Dear Brethren,
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed” (Psalm 37:3). I read this verse almost twenty years ago at my grandfather´s house in New Holland, Georgia, before returning to Brazil as a missionary intern with my father, Dr. Tom Gilmer. At the time, less than a handful of Churches supported me, but I felt a sweet assurance the Lord would take care of me, so long as I sought to serve Him, with all my heart.
Being born in Brazil, growing up a missionary kid, coupled with everything I learned in College and Seminary, made it fit like a glove. No precious time was needed investing in learning the language or culture. I was able help immediately in Church planting and Bible publication.
Ever since I became a missionary nineteen years ago, I never did full deputation, because of the workload of our Bible Ministry and Church planting. It is evident that the Lord called and prepared my wife and me for this ministry, seeing that in the last three years alone we distributed over two and a half million complete copies the Bible in Portuguese (to God be the glory). For the past nine years, our Bible Ministry (the Trinitarian Bible Society of Brazil, which had its first office on my parents´ dining room table) has helped us in our support. However, as of this month, due to the economic crisis Brazil has endured and compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, they will no longer be able to help us financially (which represents roughly 40% of our total support). This has brought us to a new step of faith.
By faith, we will continue serving our Lord, with a voluntary spirit. Our Bible Ministry needs us now more than ever before, and our new Congregation is in its forming years. One of our key supporters has promised additional help for a period, and several of our contributors sent in special offerings, for which we are grateful for eternity’s sake. The Lord provides! Please pray with us for new support for this ministry. We are trusting in Him for our provision. Your fellow servants in Brazil,
Harold, Lílian, Raphael and Danielle
