Harold and Lílian Gilmer : June 2020 Prayer Letter
Harold and Lilian Gilmer – South America Director, Church Planter and Bible Translation in São Paulo, Brazil.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
As you have probably seen on the news, Brazil is being hit hard by Covid-19, right behind the USA in the number of confirmed cases. As of this month, businesses are starting to open up again, but church services are not to return until the latter part of July, from what we hear in the news. Praise the Lord we are able to broadcast our services over the Internet and meet together virtually, but we are counting the days until we can reunite as a true body of believers!
We were pleasantly surprised by the circulation figures we just received from one of our key Bible App partners in Brazil. Currently, there are 3.1 million people reading our Portuguese Bible on this Bible App. And in 2019, 7.9 million people used our Bible at least one time. Once again, to God be the glory! These figures fill our hearts with joy, but it all boils down to one person at a time, receiving the Scriptures.
The Pandemic and economic crisis forced us to rethink our operations at our Bible Ministry, the Trinitarian Bible Society of Brazil, which brought forth both good news and bad news. The good news is that I am now the Executive Vice-President, and the bad news is that the Society is no longer able to help in our support (which represents a 40% drop in our support level). This leads us to our special request.
The Lord has given us the most faithful contributors any missionary could possibly pray for. We can only say Thank You for your faithful support and faith filled prayers. We have evidenced answers to your prayers for our ministry in ways you can only imagine. Now, we need your help in a very special way. If you could please pass this on to churches, whom you know will want to pray for us and that might have interest in supporting our ministry, we would greatly appreciate it. Our sending church and one more of our key contributors are both stepping up to bat with special offerings until new supporters take us on, but we really need your help at this time. Thank you for holding the ropes!
May God richly bless you all.
Yours fellow servants in Brazil,
Harold, Lílian, Raphael and Danielle
