Charles Barnes: October 2022 Prayer Letter

Charles and Barbie Barnes – Church Planter in Maine, USA

“But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:4)

Dear Prayer Partners,
It is hard to describe the blessing of seeing Don and Wanda follow the Lord in believer’s baptism. It is the culmination of eight years of labor and prayers. I first met Wanda in 2013, and her attendance was sporadic but has been consistent since Don, her husband, started to attend about five years ago. Their belief system was an array of traditions, humanistic thought and good works. The faithful and patient preaching of God’s word corrected that and they were able to embrace faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation and
submit to baptism by immersion.

While some respond more quickly to the gospel, it is more typical of Islanders to be much more reserve in yielding to the salvation found only in Christ. (This couple’s ancestry goes back 10 generations on the island.) There are many false doctrines that must be corrected before a true understanding of salvation by repentance and faith in Jesus alone can be seen in a credible profession that brings forth fruit. Your prayers make a difference in lives!

We were able to travel to Caribou, Maine to help encourage a young preacher and his work. Brother Josh Van Trump planted the “Living Word Baptist Church” last year and is facing all the “joys” of a new work. (The latest is finding a new location to meet, because the place they were renting had a fire.) We have had the privilege of being a part of this man’s life for a while now, and have been able to have some input in his ministry. Please pray for him and his wife, Rachel for the Lord’s leading in their life and ministry.

We are thankful for your prayers and support as we continue to minister in Maine.

May God bless you.

Planting for Christ,
C. Barnes Sr.
